Why do Supervision?
Supervision provides a safe and contained space in which delegates are supported to reflect more deeply about the nature and challenges of their professional work. It serves also to consider the emotional impact that very often exists for educators as they work to support and educate young people from a variety of backgrounds. Supervision is purposeful and is intended to help educators gain further insight into the emotional landscape, motivations and presenting behaviours of the young people with whom they work. Clear guidance will be given on when or where to refer on to, where necessary.

" The thought of a two hour supervision setting at the end of a school day was mixed to say the least, teach an old dog new tricks sprung to mind, I deliver supervision to others and off load weekly with my line manager. How wrong was I, this session was so valuable, I knew who I was in respect of my profession and work and home life and what was expected of me, rules routine, structure, but actually who am I, who is this woman who supports all and listens to all. This was thought provoking and has supported me with work life balance and made me self reflect and realise that I need to be me and comfortable with who I am, to be the best version of me. "

Supervision Requirements for Practitioners

To maintain TISUK Practitioner status, TISUK Diploma Delegates are required to complete at least 3 sessions of approved supervision per year. We suggest distributing this evenly throughout the year, for example one session per term if you are working in schools. Many delegates chose to do more sessions which we are wholely supportive of, but is not compulsary. The requirement for supervision starts on completion of your diploma, so you should complete and submit logs for 3 sessions of supervision by a year after your assessment date. Please note, this is a minimum requirement and practitioners also need to meet the supervision requirements of their setting.

Supervision must be done with a TISUK approved supervisor. This may either be a suitably qualified person that you chose and submit an application for their approval, or we are delighted that we have top supervisors to offer supervision to any TISUK trainee (currently on a 11 or 13 day training) or a TISUK graduate. If you would like to use your own supervisor download the TISUK Supervisor Approval Form here
